December 26 | The Gift of Thanksgiving

Today’s Reading:

Read Revelation 11:17-18

How was your Christmas? Did you remember to say thank you? Spend some time thanking your family members for the special way you celebrated Christmas.

When we recognize how blessed we are, the proper response is for us to say thank you! Having a spirit of gratitude is important. John wrote about 24 elders who recognized God’s power, and they sang praise to Him. They refer to God as the “Lord God, Almighty.” They praised Him for who He was. They also praised Him for all that He did. They recognized that God was going to give “the reward” to his servants.

James 1:17 tells us that every good and perfect gift comes from above. Recognizing that all we have in our life is a gift from God is important. We need to remember to have a spirit of gratitude and say thank you!

Application/Prayer:

Make thank you cards for friends and family members who gave you a gift. Remember to have a spirit of gratitude and thank God for blessing you with the gifts you have received this season.

December Memory Verse:

I have treasured your word in my heart so that I may not sin against you.

Using the daily reading prompts from George H. Guthrie’s Read the Bible for Life, here’s how to use this devotional:
  1. Bring your Bible!  Your kids need to see that everything you are reading to them or learning about comes from an actual Bible!
  2. Each day starts with a reading prompt.  Read the selection as a family.  If your kids are readers, encourage them to read along with you.
  3. After you’ve read the passage, read the short devotional thought that goes along with each passage.
  4. Prayer and application are important any time we read God’s word!  After each devotional, there is a challenge to help apply what your family has read that day.
  5. There is a reading for six days of the week.  The last reading of the week is a Gospel Conversation Prompt to help you connect the reading from the week with God’s plan for salvation.
