Very few disciples drew close to Jesus as He was crucified. Jesus’ mother Mary, Mary the wife of a disciple named Clopas, and Mary Magdalene were the last to stay with Jesus (along with one disciple, John). And on the morning of the resurrection, they were the first to the tomb where they were empowered by Jesus and tasked as the first messengers to proclaim news of the resurrection.
