September 22 | Week 38 Gospel Conversation Opportunity

GOSPEL CONVERSATION OPPORTUNITY

Who is the strongest person you know? What makes them strong? Are they strong because they have muscles? Can they pick things up that are heavy? Spend some time discussing what makes a person strong.

Sometimes we think strength is all about our muscles. But what are other ways we can be strong? Joshuah 1:9 told us to be strong and courageous. What is a way that we can demonstrate that strength?

Read Zechariah 4:6.

God was reminding the people that the restoration of the temple and their return to Jerusalem was not about their own strength. Rather, it was by God’s Spirit. Think about the story of Esther. How did she show her strength?

Ask God to help you depend on His Spirit for strength and not your own as you make decisions to follow Him each day.

September Memory Verse:

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; in all your ways know him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Using the daily reading prompts from George H. Guthrie’s Read the Bible for Life, here’s how to use this devotional:
  1. Bring your Bible!  Your kids need to see that everything you are reading to them or learning about comes from an actual Bible!
  2. Each day starts with a reading prompt.  Read the selection as a family.  If your kids are readers, encourage them to read along with you.
  3. After you’ve read the passage, read the short devotional thought that goes along with each passage.
  4. Prayer and application are important any time we read God’s word!  After each devotional, there is a challenge to help apply what your family has read that day.
  5. There is a reading for six days of the week.  The last reading of the week is a Gospel Conversation Prompt to help you connect the reading from the week with God’s plan for salvation.
