Today’s Reading:
Read Daniel 4-6
Daniel’s time in Babylon gave him many opportunities to show that He followed God’s plan! God gave Daniel the wisdom to be able to interpret dreams. When the King had a dream that no one could explain, God gave Daniel the understanding to be able to explain the dream. And even though the interpretation of the dream was bad news and not good news, Daniel was honest. Daniel lived in Babylon during the time of several different Kings. No matter the king, God still used Daniel!
The officials in Babylon were jealous of Daniel. They tricked the King into creating a law that said no one could pray to God. They could only worship the King. The King even signed the law that said anyone who did pray to God would be thrown into the lion’s den. Daniel was obedient to God again! He would not stop praying to God. Sadly, Daniel was thrown into the lion’s den. Sounds scary, doesn’t it?
Just as God had done time and time again, He provided for Daniel in the lion’s den by sending an angel to shut the mouths of the lions. And, again, when the King saw how God had provided, he started following God!
Application/Prayer:
Draw a picture of your favorite part of Daniel’s story so far. What did you choose? His choice to eat the right food? His friends in the fiery furnace? Him praying when he wasn’t supposed to? Or maybe a picture of him in the Lion’s Den. Did you remember to draw God in your picture? Daniel’s story reminds us that God is always with us, even when we may feel alone or scared. God never leaves us. Thank Him for that today!
September Memory Verse:
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; in all your ways know him,and he will make your paths straight.”
- Bring your Bible! Your kids need to see that everything you are reading to them or learning about comes from an actual Bible!
- Each day starts with a reading prompt. Read the selection as a family. If your kids are readers, encourage them to read along with you.
- After you’ve read the passage, read the short devotional thought that goes along with each passage.
- Prayer and application are important any time we read God’s word! After each devotional, there is a challenge to help apply what your family has read that day.
- There is a reading for six days of the week. The last reading of the week is a Gospel Conversation Prompt to help you connect the reading from the week with God’s plan for salvation.
