October 23 | Nothing is Hidden from God

Today’s Reading:

Read Luke 12:22-34, 13:10-30

Play a game called, “I’ve got a secret.” Mom or dad, think of something that your family will need to guess. Allow the members of your family to ask yes or no questions to guess what your secret is. How many guesses did it take for someone to guess what you were thinking?

In our reading today, Jesus taught the disciples that nothing is hidden from God. Jesus continued to teach the people how they should be living from day to day, in a way that would honor God, As He taught, he reminded the disciples that God knew everything about them. Nothing is hidden from God. Jesus reminded the disciples that since God knew everything, He also knew exactly what their needs were. They did not have to worry. They could trust God to provide all of their needs because He knew what their needs were.

Jesus also wanted the people to know that because God knew everything, He also knew the sincerity of their hearts. God knew if the people were truly following Him or just saying they were following Him. Jesus taught the people how important it was to repent, to turn away from sin and to turn toward God.

Application/Prayer:

God knows everything about us! Nothing is hidden from Him. He knows if our hearts are truly seeking Him. He also knows what our needs are. We can trust Him with every part of our life. Thank God for that truth today!

October Memory Verse:

“When I am afraid, I will trust in you.”

Using the daily reading prompts from George H. Guthrie’s Read the Bible for Life, here’s how to use this devotional:
  1. Bring your Bible!  Your kids need to see that everything you are reading to them or learning about comes from an actual Bible!
  2. Each day starts with a reading prompt.  Read the selection as a family.  If your kids are readers, encourage them to read along with you.
  3. After you’ve read the passage, read the short devotional thought that goes along with each passage.
  4. Prayer and application are important any time we read God’s word!  After each devotional, there is a challenge to help apply what your family has read that day.
  5. There is a reading for six days of the week.  The last reading of the week is a Gospel Conversation Prompt to help you connect the reading from the week with God’s plan for salvation.
