November 29 | Walk by Faith, Not By Sight

Today’s Reading:

Read 2 Corinthians 5-9

We’re going to put our faith into action today! Grab a blindfold. Choose someone in your family to blindfold. Give the blindfolded family member directions for where to walk and what to do. Allow each member of your family to take a turn wearing the blindfold. Was it easy to move around when you could not see? Did you trust the person who was calling out directions. Wearing the blindfold puts the verse in our reading today (2 Corinthians 5:7) into practice!

Paul’s letter to the church at Corinth reminded them that they were walking by faith and not by sight. In our walk with Jesus, we don’t always see what He is doing or how He is moving, but we can trust that He is moving and working. Paul also told them that because of their faith in Jesus they were a “new creation.” They did not have to live separated from God anymore and they could be forgiven of their sin. As a result, that also meant that they became the “temple of God.” (2 Corinthians 6:16) And out of the thankful heart that they had for all that God had done for them, Paul reminded them that God loves a cheerful giver, and they could give out of gratitude for all that God had done for them.

Application/Prayer:

Spend some time as a family today discussing what it means to be a “new creation” in Christ. Thank God for His plan to provide forgiveness of sin and a chance for a brand new start!

November Memory Verse:

“The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the word of our God remains forever.”

Using the daily reading prompts from George H. Guthrie’s Read the Bible for Life, here’s how to use this devotional:
  1. Bring your Bible!  Your kids need to see that everything you are reading to them or learning about comes from an actual Bible!
  2. Each day starts with a reading prompt.  Read the selection as a family.  If your kids are readers, encourage them to read along with you.
  3. After you’ve read the passage, read the short devotional thought that goes along with each passage.
  4. Prayer and application are important any time we read God’s word!  After each devotional, there is a challenge to help apply what your family has read that day.
  5. There is a reading for six days of the week.  The last reading of the week is a Gospel Conversation Prompt to help you connect the reading from the week with God’s plan for salvation.
