November 27 | Paul’s Testimony

Today’s Reading:

Read I Corinthians 15-16

Mom and Dad, take some time today to share with your kids the story of when you became a Christ follower. If your kids have already made that decision, encourage them to share their stories as well. Telling others how we came to know Jesus is a great way to encourage them to come to Jesus.

In our reading today, Paul shared his testimony with the church at Corinth. A testimony is a story of how someone came to know Jesus. Paul reminded the Corinthians that Jesus died for their sins, that he was buried and that he rose again after 3 days. More than that though, Paul told the story of when he met Jesus and when Jesus changed his life. Paul said, “But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:10)

Paul’s goal in sharing the story with the Corinthians was to be sure that they understood that they could follow Jesus in the same way. He wanted them to understand all that Jesus had done for them when He died on the cross and then rose from the dead three days later. Because of Jesus’ death and resurrection, Paul wanted the church to know that they could have the hope of heaven.

“But thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (I Corinthians 15:56)

Application/Prayer:

Spend some time thanking Jesus for what He did for us when He died on the cross for our sins and then rose again. Remember, we can have hope and know that we are not separated from God because of that sacrifice. Thank Him for that today!

November Memory Verse:

“The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the word of our God remains forever.”

Using the daily reading prompts from George H. Guthrie’s Read the Bible for Life, here’s how to use this devotional:
  1. Bring your Bible!  Your kids need to see that everything you are reading to them or learning about comes from an actual Bible!
  2. Each day starts with a reading prompt.  Read the selection as a family.  If your kids are readers, encourage them to read along with you.
  3. After you’ve read the passage, read the short devotional thought that goes along with each passage.
  4. Prayer and application are important any time we read God’s word!  After each devotional, there is a challenge to help apply what your family has read that day.
  5. There is a reading for six days of the week.  The last reading of the week is a Gospel Conversation Prompt to help you connect the reading from the week with God’s plan for salvation.
