Today’s Reading:
Read Acts 17:1-18:18
In your Day-by-Day Chronological Bible, turn to the back page and study Paul’s Missionary journeys. Take some time to trace the cities we have read about already. Keep the map handy and point out the cities in today’s reading. Paul traveled throughout the Mediterranean region planting churches and teaching people about Jesus!
Paul had a pattern that he followed in each new town he entered. His first stop was the synagogue which is where the Jewish people would go to study the Torah and learn about God. Paul’s message would point to Jesus as the Promised Messiah that the Torah pointed to. His goal was to help the Jewish people see that Jesus had come to fulfill the law that they were studying. After he taught in the synagogues, he would then spend time teaching in the city markets and streets. His message was to introduce the Gentiles to God and his plan for redemption and restoration. Many people listened to Paul and became Christ followers. However, some people did not like his message. In each town he entered, Paul had to face leaders who were unhappy with what he was teaching.
Paul did not stop preaching, even though some people wanted him to. Paul had a vision where God came to him and told him “Don’t be afraid, but keep on speaking and don’t be silent.” (Acts 18:9) Paul knew his message was important
Application/Prayer:
Draw a map of your town or neighborhood. (Be creative, don’t worry about it being perfect!) Map out places where you go every day where you could tell other people about Jesus. Remember, you don’t have to travel far away to tell people the good news of Jesus. The people we see every day need to hear about Him! Ask God to help you share the good news about Jesus with the people you meet.
November Memory Verse:
“The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the word of our God remains forever.”
- Bring your Bible! Your kids need to see that everything you are reading to them or learning about comes from an actual Bible!
- Each day starts with a reading prompt. Read the selection as a family. If your kids are readers, encourage them to read along with you.
- After you’ve read the passage, read the short devotional thought that goes along with each passage.
- Prayer and application are important any time we read God’s word! After each devotional, there is a challenge to help apply what your family has read that day.
- There is a reading for six days of the week. The last reading of the week is a Gospel Conversation Prompt to help you connect the reading from the week with God’s plan for salvation.
