November 17 | Week 46 Gospel Conversation Opportunity

GOSPEL CONVERSATION OPPORTUNITY

Read Acts 16:25-31.

Paul and Silas were in a jail cell because of their teachings. How do you think you would feel if you were in jail because you told people about Jesus? It might have been scary. However, Paul and Silas took the chance to sing hymns and praise God. An earthquake came and the doors to the prison were open. They had the opportunity to escape, but they did not. When the jailer saw that the doors had been opened, he was sure that they had escaped, and he was frightful of the circumstances he would face if the prisoners had escaped. Paul and Silas let him know they were still there and had not left. Because of Paul and Silas’ testimony and the way they handled that situation, the jailer asked the question, “What must I do to be saved?” And Paul explained that what he had to do was believe in the Lord Jesus. The jailkeeper was saved.

Ask God to help you be faithful in your testimony just like Paul and Silas were. Because they continued to praise God in the middle of scary circumstances and they also did not leave the jail when they could have, the jail keeper wanted to know more about Jesus. Ask God to help you point to Jesus in your day-to-day life the same way Paul and Silas did.

November Memory Verse:

“The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the word of our God remains forever.”

Using the daily reading prompts from George H. Guthrie’s Read the Bible for Life, here’s how to use this devotional:
  1. Bring your Bible!  Your kids need to see that everything you are reading to them or learning about comes from an actual Bible!
  2. Each day starts with a reading prompt.  Read the selection as a family.  If your kids are readers, encourage them to read along with you.
  3. After you’ve read the passage, read the short devotional thought that goes along with each passage.
  4. Prayer and application are important any time we read God’s word!  After each devotional, there is a challenge to help apply what your family has read that day.
  5. There is a reading for six days of the week.  The last reading of the week is a Gospel Conversation Prompt to help you connect the reading from the week with God’s plan for salvation.
