May 22 | God’s People Remember

Today’s Reading:

Read Psalm 113-118

A couple of days ago, we talked about what your first memory was.  Today, talk to your family about your FAVORITE memory.  What is a memory you have that makes you very happy when you remember it?  It is good to be able to remember happy times, isn’t it?

Our reading today is full of memories that the Israelites would have treasured.  Remembering who God was and all that He had done for the Israelites helped them worship God and thank Him. The more the Israelites talked about those memories, the more they remembered God’s faithfulness.  The memories and stories of how God had provided for them helped them to remember that God was faithful and trustworthy.

Read Psalm 118:29. “Give thanks to the Lord for He is good.  His Faithful love endures forever.”

Application/Prayer:

As you read the chapters in today’s reading, make a list of the many ways God provided for the IsraelitesDo you remember reading about these things happening in the early books of the BibleThank God for His word that points to His faithfulness.

May Memory Verse:

“Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.”

Using the daily reading prompts from George H. Guthrie’s Read the Bible for Life, here’s how to use this devotional:
  1. Bring your Bible!  Your kids need to see that everything you are reading to them or learning about comes from an actual Bible!
  2. Each day starts with a reading prompt.  Read the selection as a family.  If your kids are readers, encourage them to read along with you.
  3. After you’ve read the passage, read the short devotional thought that goes along with each passage.
  4. Prayer and application are important any time we read God’s word!  After each devotional, there is a challenge to help apply what your family has read that day.
  5. There is a reading for six days of the week.  The last reading of the week is a Gospel Conversation Prompt to help you connect the reading from the week with God’s plan for salvation.
