May 20 | FOREVER

Today’s Reading:

Read Psalm 111-112

What is the first memory you can remember?  Talk about those memories with your family.  Do you think you will remember those memories forever?

Read Psalm 111:5. “…he remembers his covenant forever…” Do you remember the covenants we have learned about?  We have read about God’s covenant with Abraham and God’s covenant with David.  The covenant between God an Abraham, where God established that the Israelites would be His Chosen People, would have taken place hundreds of years before the Psalms were written.  But God had not forgotten it and the Psalmist (the person who wrote this Psalm) trusted that He would remember it forever.

Read Psalm 112:2. “His descendants will be powerful in the land; the generation fof the upright will be blessed.”  Because God is gracious, compassionate, and righteous, He will remember His covenant with His chosen people FOREVER!

Application/Prayer:

Talk about things that last “forever.”  Thank God that His love for you will last forever!

May Memory Verse:

“Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.”

Using the daily reading prompts from George H. Guthrie’s Read the Bible for Life, here’s how to use this devotional:
  1. Bring your Bible!  Your kids need to see that everything you are reading to them or learning about comes from an actual Bible!
  2. Each day starts with a reading prompt.  Read the selection as a family.  If your kids are readers, encourage them to read along with you.
  3. After you’ve read the passage, read the short devotional thought that goes along with each passage.
  4. Prayer and application are important any time we read God’s word!  After each devotional, there is a challenge to help apply what your family has read that day.
  5. There is a reading for six days of the week.  The last reading of the week is a Gospel Conversation Prompt to help you connect the reading from the week with God’s plan for salvation.
