July 30 | God Wants to Bless His People

Today’s Reading:

Read Isaiah 64:8-12; Isaiah 65:8-9, 17-19; Isaiah 66:1-2

Grab some playdough and let’s create today! Give everyone in your family some playdough and allow everyone an opportunity to create something special.  When your creations are complete, ask these questions:

*Who decided what your play dough creation would be? Did your play dough tell you what you should make it into? How would you feel if someone destroyed your play dough creation?

In our reading today, Isaiah reminded the Israelites that they were just like your playdough creation. They were the clay and God was the potter. The Israelites were the creation and God was the creator. God had a plan in place from the very beginning of what He wanted for His creation. It didn’t make sense that the Israelites thought they could tell God what they would be. He created them for a purpose – He was the potter and they were the clay!

God loved his creation. He wanted to bless them. He wanted what was best for them. The Israelites had turned away from God and disobeyed Him, but God did not stop loving them. He had a plan for the Israelites to no longer live separated from Him. God wanted to bless His people.  He had a plan to do that and Isaiah helped the Israelites know what that plan was.

Application/Prayer:

Thank God for creating you to be just who you wereRemember, He created you in His image. Thank Him for that and ask Him to help you honor that in all you do.

July Memory Verse:

“Truly I tell you, anyone who hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not come under judgment but has passed from death to life.”

Using the daily reading prompts from George H. Guthrie’s Read the Bible for Life, here’s how to use this devotional:
  1. Bring your Bible!  Your kids need to see that everything you are reading to them or learning about comes from an actual Bible!
  2. Each day starts with a reading prompt.  Read the selection as a family.  If your kids are readers, encourage them to read along with you.
  3. After you’ve read the passage, read the short devotional thought that goes along with each passage.
  4. Prayer and application are important any time we read God’s word!  After each devotional, there is a challenge to help apply what your family has read that day.
  5. There is a reading for six days of the week.  The last reading of the week is a Gospel Conversation Prompt to help you connect the reading from the week with God’s plan for salvation.
