Today’s Reading:
Read Isaiah 18:7; 19:1, 16-25; 21:6-10
Imagine a friend is walking down the sidewalk and there is a crack in the sidewalk that is going to trip them. How would you let them know? You would probably grab their arm or yell their name to be sure they see what is ahead of them. Isaiah’s message in the book of Isaiah is a warning to the people that something was coming that they needed to pay attention to.
Isaiah had more prophecies for the nations surrounding the Israelites. God was using Isaiah to tell the surrounding nations that things were going to change.
Read Exodus 20:4.
Remember God specifically told the people that they were not to have any false images that would replace Him. Not only were the surrounding nations choosing NOT to worship the one true God, but they were also worshiping statues or images that they created. Isaiah’s message to the nations was that God was going to bring destruction to them. Isaiah also made it clear that not only was God going to destroy the nations, but God was also going to get the glory as a result of that destruction and those nations would worship Him!
God’s desire was to heal the people and to restore a relationship with them. Isaiah prophesied that the way that was going to happen would bring judgment.
Application/Prayer:
Think back to the example of your friend walking down the sidewalk. How do you think the friend would respond to your warning about them falling? Most likely, they would be grateful. God’s word acts as a warning for us and lets us know when something might happen that would hurt us or that we need to pay attention to. Take some time to thank God for providing us His word as a warning system for us! God always provides for us and we should be grateful for that.
July Memory Verse:
“Truly I tell you, anyone who hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not come under judgment but has passed from death to life.”
- Bring your Bible! Your kids need to see that everything you are reading to them or learning about comes from an actual Bible!
- Each day starts with a reading prompt. Read the selection as a family. If your kids are readers, encourage them to read along with you.
- After you’ve read the passage, read the short devotional thought that goes along with each passage.
- Prayer and application are important any time we read God’s word! After each devotional, there is a challenge to help apply what your family has read that day.
- There is a reading for six days of the week. The last reading of the week is a Gospel Conversation Prompt to help you connect the reading from the week with God’s plan for salvation.
