December 8 | Week 49 Gospel Conversation Opportunity

GOSPEL CONVERSATION OPPORTUNITY

Advent Week Two- The Gift of LOVE

As a family, read or recite John 3:16.

“For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.”

God sent Jesus to help us! Jesus came as a baby, but God had a plan for His life that would change the world. Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins and then rose from the dead 3 days later! Jesus loved us so much; He did all of that for us!

Paul’s message to the Romans was one that reminded them often of the gift that God gave us when he sent Jesus. Remember, Paul had told the Romans that the wages of sin was death (Romans 3:23) but that the gift of God was eternal life through Jesus Christ. (Romans 6:23) Paul reminded the Romans, and us, that “God proved his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”(Romans 5:8)

Christmas is when we celebrate the greatest act of LOVE. Look for ways as a family to show others the love of Jesus this season. Is there someone who needs to hear about Jesus’ love? Is there someone who needs to experience Jesus’ love? Ask God to help you share the good news of His love with.

December Memory Verse:

I have treasured your word in my heart so that I may not sin against you.

Using the daily reading prompts from George H. Guthrie’s Read the Bible for Life, here’s how to use this devotional:
  1. Bring your Bible!  Your kids need to see that everything you are reading to them or learning about comes from an actual Bible!
  2. Each day starts with a reading prompt.  Read the selection as a family.  If your kids are readers, encourage them to read along with you.
  3. After you’ve read the passage, read the short devotional thought that goes along with each passage.
  4. Prayer and application are important any time we read God’s word!  After each devotional, there is a challenge to help apply what your family has read that day.
  5. There is a reading for six days of the week.  The last reading of the week is a Gospel Conversation Prompt to help you connect the reading from the week with God’s plan for salvation.
