December 28 | The Gift of Jesus’ Return

Today’s Reading:

Read Revelation 21-22

We made it! You have read the entire Bible! Way to go! The ending is pretty exciting, don’t you think?

When God made the earth, remember how amazing the Garden of Eden was? Go back and read Genesis 1 for a reminder of all that God did during creation. Adam and Eve were able to walk with God and talk with God- with no separation. When they chose to sin and separation happened, they were also sent out of the Garden. In our reading today, we read a description of the new earth that will come when Jesus returns. It is beautiful and perfect, just like the Garden of Eden was. And- guess what? We won’t be separated from God anymore!

The journey to get from Genesis to Revelation was a long one. But, at last! The King has come and He will return to take us to Heaven – where He has been preparing a place for us.

Application/Prayer:

Thank God for the end of the story! We know that even though we face trials and struggles on earth, we can look forward to a day with no more trials and struggles when Jesus returns. We know how the story ends so we can have confidence as we walk with Him from day to day.

December Memory Verse:

I have treasured your word in my heart so that I may not sin against you.

Using the daily reading prompts from George H. Guthrie’s Read the Bible for Life, here’s how to use this devotional:
  1. Bring your Bible!  Your kids need to see that everything you are reading to them or learning about comes from an actual Bible!
  2. Each day starts with a reading prompt.  Read the selection as a family.  If your kids are readers, encourage them to read along with you.
  3. After you’ve read the passage, read the short devotional thought that goes along with each passage.
  4. Prayer and application are important any time we read God’s word!  After each devotional, there is a challenge to help apply what your family has read that day.
  5. There is a reading for six days of the week.  The last reading of the week is a Gospel Conversation Prompt to help you connect the reading from the week with God’s plan for salvation.
