GOSPEL CONVERSATION OPPORTUNITY
Advent Week Four- The Gift of PEACE
Grab a dictionary and look up the word peace. You’ll most likely find a definition that defines peace as a time when there is no war or when war has ended. This week we will celebrate the GIFT OF PEACE that Jesus provided when He came to earth.
Consider what happened when Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden. Remember, when God first created the world, it was perfect; there was no sin. Adam and Eve got to walk with God and talk with God. Unfortunately, when Adam and Eve sinned, that connection or peace they had with God was destroyed. They were separated from God. And, also as a result, the battle that we all have with sin began. God had a plan in place for that separation to end and the battle to be over. Genesis 3:15 promised a redeemer that would come to help create peace. Jesus came as that promised redeemer.
I Peter 2:24 says, “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree so that having died to sin, we might live in righteousness.” And because of what Jesus did on the cross, we can celebrate Hebrews 10:18 that says, “Now where there is forgiveness of sin, there is no longer an offering for sin.” Jesus’ death was the offering for sin so that we no longer had to be separated from God.
Isaiah 9:6 prophesied, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Jesus came to be the Prince of Peace. His death and resurrection secured our peace with God.
Thank God today for the gift of Peace that He gave us by sending Jesus to earth!

December Memory Verse:
I have treasured your word in my heart so that I may not sin against you.
- Bring your Bible! Your kids need to see that everything you are reading to them or learning about comes from an actual Bible!
- Each day starts with a reading prompt. Read the selection as a family. If your kids are readers, encourage them to read along with you.
- After you’ve read the passage, read the short devotional thought that goes along with each passage.
- Prayer and application are important any time we read God’s word! After each devotional, there is a challenge to help apply what your family has read that day.
- There is a reading for six days of the week. The last reading of the week is a Gospel Conversation Prompt to help you connect the reading from the week with God’s plan for salvation.
