Scripture: 1 Peter 1:13–25
Devotion
When Peter says, “Be holy in all you do” (v.15), I’ll be honest; that sounds like a tall order. Holiness? In all I do? Even when I step on a Lego in the dark with my bare foot, and words come to mind that definitely aren’t in the hymn book? That kind of holy feels out of reach some days.
But here’s the good news: holiness isn’t something we earn by being good or holding it all together. It’s something we receive because of what Jesus has already done for us. Peter reminds us that we were redeemed from our old, empty way of life by the precious blood of Christ. That’s the only thing that makes us holy as He is holy: not our perfect record, not our quiet-time streak, not even our best intentions. Only Jesus. His holiness becomes ours when we belong to Him.
So what does that look like in real life? It’s choosing gentleness when frustration rises. It’s keeping a kind word ready instead of a sharp one. It’s forgiving when you’d rather hold on to the hurt. Holiness shows up in those ordinary moments when we pause long enough to let the Spirit shape our responses. It’s about continually bringing your heart before Him in surrender, asking Him to search you and sanctify you.
The same power that saved you is the power that’s shaping you every day. So take a deep breath, thank God for His grace, and remember, you are already set apart because of the blood that bought you.
A Personal Prayer
Lord, thank You for redeeming me from an empty way of life and calling me into something fuller and better. Help me live out the holiness You’ve already given me through Jesus. When the hard moments come, even the Lego-on-the-floor kind, teach me to respond with Your grace and patience. Keep my heart soft before You, and keep shaping me, one surrendered, holy moment at a time. Amen.
