Devotion
What does it mean when we say that Jesus is Lord?
The idea of a “lord” can be unfamiliar in our society, but it wouldn’t have been to the people living in the time of the New Testament. A “lord” is someone to bow down to and obey, a person who has power and influence over something or someone. Everyone has a “lord” in their life, and they must determine if that “lord” is worthy to obey.
Our Lord, Jesus Christ, has shown himself worthy by coming to us and dying on the cross. From Genesis to Revelation, we see Jesus revealed as Lord. As we consider the gospel, we must recognize that Jesus is Lord. He is not a project to serve, a fire insurance policy, or a bandage for the hard parts of our lives. Rather, he is the Lord we should obey and devote our entire lives to and obey.
The gospel is centered around Jesus’ position as our Lord. To effectively share the gospel with our neighbors and friends, we need to reflect that in how we live our lives. Take a moment and think about who you have crowned as lord of your life. Is it Jesus? Ask Jesus to reveal ways you can make Him the Lord of your life.
A Personal Prayer
Open your Bible to 2 Corinthians 5:17. Read through the passage and thank God for the transformation he has brought to your life. Reflect on the sins that are now gone, and express gratitude to Jesus for taking them upon himself and setting you free.
