Scripture: 2 Timothy 2:2
Devotion
Who was the first person to share their faith in Jesus with you? Maybe it was the person who first explained the gospel. Maybe it was a parent teaching you what it means to follow Christ. Maybe it was a mentor who took time to intentionally disciple you. One thing every testimony has in common is that someone shared the gospel with us. Thousands of years and an ocean away from ancient Israel, we modern believers would have no chance to hear about Jesus without faithful men and women stewarding that gospel along the way.
We have eternally benefited from that legacy, and it is now our responsibility to continue it. In his letter, Paul encourages Timothy to take what he has heard and entrust it to the next generation, so that they may in turn teach others as well. We are part of that same spiritual lineage! And now that we have been entrusted with the truth, it’s our turn to pass our faith on to others.
As the saying goes, our faith is personal but shouldn’t be private. Every life-changing encounter with God comes with a testimony to steward what we have seen and heard. Our church longs to be part of a movement that shares the gospel with millions. That might sound like a daunting task, but what if we commit to intentionally discipling a few faithful friends, and then they do the same? History and Scripture show that this simple, obedient strategy can truly change the world. May we pass the torch of faith to the next generation and celebrate as God uses them to carry it forward.
A Personal Prayer
Thank God for those who shared their faith with you, and pray for them by name. Ask the Spirit to bring to mind people you can invest in and disciple, and pray for opportunities to share your faith with them. Finally, pray that our church will lead boldly in making disciples who make disciples.
