Scripture: Proverbs 11:1–7
Devotion
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus reminds us that our problem is not only behavior but the condition of our hearts. If the love and law of God do not shape our hearts, they will be captured by the false promises of the world. When our hearts are trained toward spiritual maturity, we develop godly character that can withstand temptation.
Most shortcuts to worldly success begin with shortcuts in character. These may be major failures or small compromises we assume go unnoticed. Yet over time, even small cracks can widen into a deep divide between who we are called to be and who we become when no one is watching. As James asks, can salt water and fresh water flow from the same spring (Jas 3:11)? True spiritual success comes through sanctification that produces consistency and holiness.
The key to integrity is turning to Christ, the perfect example of perfect character. We repent of chasing lesser kingdoms and believe His truth about the Kingdom of God. Believe that He upholds the righteous and makes their paths straight. Believe that while the world’s promises fade, His promises stand. Believe that worldly gain cannot compare to the eternal reward of a holy life. What we surrender for holiness, we gain in Him.
