When Your Words Aren’t Enough

April 26, 2022

“If we accept human testimony, God’s testimony is greater, because it is God’s testimony that he has given about his Son.”

1 John 5:9

Have you ever been speechless? Maybe you didn’t know how to respond to a struggling friend, or you felt helpless on the other side of a devastating phone call. Or maybe you had the “right words” in the moment you needed them, but your speech failed to procure the result you had desperately hoped for. So, what do you do when your words aren’t enough?

Pray First

In today’s Scripture, we read that our words pale in comparison to the testimony that comes from the Father. That’s why we must use our words in prayer and seek Him first. His understanding is beyond our own. And prayer, accompanied with Scripture, is the best practice for knowing how to speak or when to refrain in our responses.

Speak When It Counts

We need the Holy Spirit to move and breathe through our every syllable, especially when it comes to sharing the gospel with others. His words are truly the only ones that matter. He alone has the power to convey the sweet message of salvation and penetrate a heart of stone.

Always Give Life

Our world today is filled with thoughts of hopelessness and doubt. But we can trust God the Father since He has declared what is true in His creation. And His Word never returns void. So, use your words to uplift and encourage as the Author of Life speaks through you. Remember, God’s testimony is greater, and His Son is the Word Himself.

How are you using your speech? Do you think before you speak, setting your mind to share words of life? Spend time now in prayer and seek the Father’s heart. His Word is what stands the test of time. Then, ask Him to guide you in your responses so that others may know Him better. A timely word is always a delight (Proverbs 15:23).
