“So they asked him, ‘Then how were your eyes opened?’ He answered, ‘The man called Jesus made mud, spread it on my eyes, and told me, ‘Go to Siloam and wash.’ So when I went and washed I received my sight.’”
John 9:10-11
Surrounded by The Dark
When is the last time you had a light bulb moment? Sometimes, it turns on because we were desperately looking for the switch. Or maybe it takes you by surprise because you didn’t realize you were sitting in the dark. Or maybe you accepted that darkness is all you will know.
Put yourself in the shoes of the blind man. He has quite literally been left in the dark his whole life. He has been reduced to begging on the streets just to get by. All he knew was darkness until the Light of the world came into his life. Then, everything changed. Even the people that knew him and saw him everyday didn’t recognize who he was.
Awakened to The Light
Have you ever felt like you’ve been left in the dark? Maybe the darkness was brought on by others. Maybe it was brought upon yourself. And maybe you’ve just never known light. Sometimes our journey feels like getting mud smeared on our eyes and we’re navigating the best we can to find the pool to wash in. Close your eyes for a moment. Then, slowly open them allowing the light to slowly break through. Now, imagine it being the first time you’ve ever saw light, color, and faces of people you know. That is the power of Jesus in our life.
When the blind man first encountered Jesus, all he had was his name. He didn’t see his face. When life seems so dark that we cannot see, we cling to the name of Jesus. When Jesus walks into our life that often feels like utter darkness, everything changes.
Now What?
Where in your life do you need the Light to invade the darkness? What areas of darkness do you need to speak the name of Jesus into? How can you help someone navigate to the pool to wash so that they may clear the mud off their eyes and see? Take time now to ask God for fresh vision and trust that He will open your eyes to a wonderful future.
