Wait, You Know Him, Too?

“This is how we know that we know him: if we keep his commands.”

1 John 2:3

You Know The Feeling…

Have you felt something was true deep inside you, almost to the point that you ached if someone questioned you on the subject? That feeling is what our God is wanting us to have for His commands. We get that feeling deep inside that tells us we are His and part of Him.

1 John 2:3 could be considered a test of our commitment to the One who has provided us our salvation. Without this alignment to His commands, there would be no joy in the faith of a future with Him. The feeling we have with Him exists in our knowledge that we are saved by His grace, surrounded in His everlasting love, inspired by His Word, overflowing with His Spirit, and assured that we will one day be in sight of the divine throne as heirs of the heavenly kingdom.

It’s for The Best

Some may focus on the negative connotation of the word “commands,” liking it to the rules that humans place on one another to inflict control or force submission and obedience. It is true that we are to submit to God’s commands, yet His commands are there to better our lives, not control them. There is a distinction between our relationship with God and walking in light. The relationship is related to having knowledge of God, no difference than a friendship we have with one another. The latter, however, is related to our observance of the divine commandments, which we are given through His Word and is the concrete embodiment of our faith.

Christ and His Light

We should all desire to bring out the Christian in us. The Christian life can be a beacon for those who are suffering through this life without the Light of the World inside them. There are so many walking in the dark, living far from the Light, only needing someone to take the time to let them experience what God can do in their current and eternal lives.

What Now?

How are you being a beacon for the lost as they walk through your lives each day? One way to be sure you are keeping with the commands is to be in the Word daily. A simple way to stay in the Word is to have a daily devotional time each morning. This will get your day started in the right direction with God leading the way. What is your prayer and devotional time like? If you are needing someone to help you with keeping the commands, a small group is a great way to have accountability for your walk. If you are not part of a group, maybe it is time you found yours today.
