The Race for Peace: A Family Activity

The Christmas season is all about celebrating Jesus, who is our “Peace on Earth.” The word “peace” in Hebrew is “shalom.” So, let’s play a game that helps us remember the word “shalom” and its meaning!

Before we get started, make sure you know how to spell the word: S-H-A-L-O-M. Together, we will race to see who can find objects in our home that represent each letter of the word! For example, you can find socks to represent the letter S, a hairbrush to represent the letter H, and so on. Once you have all six objects, arrange them together in spelling order, and you’re done!

To this day, Jewish people still use the word “shalom” to greet one another and to say goodbye. Maybe for this week, you can practice using it, too!
