5 Reasons Why You Should Teach Preschoolers at Church
Perhaps you’ve thought about teaching preschoolers at Brentwood Baptist Church, but you think, “I’m sure they have enough people; there are so many people here.” You might want to ask, “Why am I not teaching?” If it comes to mind, maybe you need to start serving!
1. You love young children.
You value who they are and how God made them to learn about Him.
2. You have something to offer.
God gave you gifts and talents to share His love with the youngest. Use your gift of teaching by sharing God’s love with the least of these.
3. You are called to teach children.
Be obedient and available to follow that call in your life to teach about God.
4. You know children need to build a foundation for faith.
There are tenants of our faith that need to have a foundation upon which to build concepts about God, Jesus, the Bible, and the church.
5. You love their families.
You will support the family’s primary focus of teaching their children about God. Celebrate milestones in their children’s development and understanding. Loving families only makes them stronger.
Now, I know you’re saying, “Here goes Ann again.” Well, you might be right! I want it known that teaching young children about God is the life-line to the next generation of believers. Without someone teaching about who God is in their lives, the next generation may not know.
In Psalm 145:4 (NIV), it is written, “One generation commends your works to another; they will tell of your mighty acts.” Yes, this is written as a command, but it is also a great privilege. Our children need to experience the joy of loving others because someone loved them. The spiritual foundation built in the early preschool years will grow and deepen their understanding in the future as they study and develop an awareness of a great and loving God.
I could cite other Scripture passages with instruction to teach children about God’s nature, His will, His compassion, His graciousness, His promise, and His love for everyone. Those who teach have a great responsibility to share what they know about God with others, especially young children. Anyone who has the gift of teaching is passionate about sharing God’s message. He will use all who are sensitive to His call and make themselves available.
Will you…
1. Pray about serving with preschool children at church?
2. Seek God’s direction and follow His guidance?
3. Volunteer to make a difference for the future?
My prayer is that you will prayerfully consider serving young children at Brentwood Baptist by teaching them about God and telling His story to the next generation so that all may know Him, His gracious love, His promises, and His glorious plan for those who believe in Him.
