… through the blood of the everlasting covenant …

Hebrews 13:20d

Searching for Something

As a society, we look for material objects to fill a hole that only God can fill. When I buy something, in the back of my mind there is an internal conflict: will this item last? If I did not think about that when I purchased the item, I probably had regrets when it broke not long after that.

Or maybe you are like me, and you like to find good deals when shopping. Well, the best decision in my life was giving my life to Christ. We can look for discounts and shop around, but I would submit to you that we have at one time in our lives discounted God—even though He paid it all.

We can receive salvation for free, and God chose us for eternity. Yet we are discounting that when we take our eyes off Him. When we let the world’s point of view distract us, it ultimately hardens our hearts to those around us.

With Eternal Focus

When buying a car, I am usually looking for two things: how reliable it is and how it looks. Reliability takes precedence, as I do not want to go through the process of buying a car that often. Someone might say you cannot have your cake and eat it, too. That is true of that scenario.

But the good news is when deciding to accept the Lord, we have a lifetime, or better stated, an eternal warranty.

He is Our Peace

I am guilty at times of getting caught up with the world around me. But if I keep making an active attempt to know Him, I will truly see how reliable He is. Knowing this will bring peace to all our lives. We need to stop looking for the world to give us peace. If we keep seeking the Lord and understand the sacrifice Jesus made for our eternal reward, we can be confident that He will provide for us, even when things in this world look the darkest. Through Him, we can truly know peace in the darkness.

When we turn our life over to the Lord and seek Him even in the darkest of times, we will be given the peace we truly need. As it says in Philippians 4:7, “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Peace comes when we seek and lean on Him.

Now What?

Take a moment to consider the things in this life you are seeking after. Are you able to hand these over to the Lord, for the sake of His peace being made known in the darkness? Reflect on the security we have through faith in Jesus, the answer to all of our searching.
