  • What types of serving opportunities are there as a Special Needs Volunteer?

There are many ways you can serve in the Special Needs Ministry:

    • Sunday Mornings
      • You can serve as a one-to-one buddy. You may go with the individual to their Sunday School classroom or Marketplace. You may stay in a sensory room in the Special Needs hallway. It all depends on the needs of the indivudal for which you are paired.
      • You may choose to serve in the Student and Adult teaching classroom. In this classroom you may support one individual or the classroom as a whole. During this time a lesson is taught using Special Needs curriculum. Do not worry everything is planned for you!
    • Wednesday Nights
      • You can serve an individual with disabilities in their peer group or in the sensory rooms based on the students needs.
    • rEcess
      • Friday nights once a month, a respite night is offered to families and caregivers of children with special needs and their siblings, ages 3-14-years old. Parents/Caregivers drop-off their child(ren) from 600pm to 9pm. During that time the children play games, watch movies, and have a fantastic time!
    • Camps/Retreats/Mission Trips
      • You can also go on camps, retreats and mission trips with individuals with special needs and help them access and engage in the activities! FUN!!!
  • How can I become a Special Needs Volunteer?

Steps to becoming a volunteer: (Age Requirement: There is not a specified age requirement. We currently have volunteers who are under the age of 18 and do an amazing job!)

    1. Contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
    2. Set a time on a Sunday morning, with Becca, to come and visit. This is a great opportunitiy to see the ministry, meet our friends, staff and volunteers and ask any questions.
    3. Complete and clear a background check (18 years and older) or if under 18 years of age, submit a letter from a teacher/coach/ family friend who can speak to your ability to serve as a volunteer.
    4. Share your talents and preferences for serving, including: age group, number of times a month and the hour which you would like to serve.
    5. One of the coordinators or Becca will contact you with your serving times.

The process is very simple and we are always in need of and excited to have new volunteers!
