And we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and the one who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him.
1 John 4:16
His Love
Do you feel you are living in God’s love each day and sharing this love with others? Many times it seems that the events of the day tend to draw our minds away from God’s love for us. We get overly focused on meeting the next deadline at work, getting the kids to practice on time or helping an elderly loved one with their daily needs.
Our Love
Amidst all of this, we are reminded in John’s letter to the early church in Ephesus that God’s love is something we can always rely upon. It is never ceasing, but will always be there for us. In 1 John 4:16, scripture tells us that “God is love,” recognizing that He represents to us the very essence of love. He revealed His rich and perfect love for us by sending His only Son to die for our sins, so that we may have life through Him. Further, we are told that for those who live in love, God lives in them. What a wonderful reminder of the opportunity we have to experience God’s love in our lives each day!
Love is Life
Living in love each day is put into action by looking for new opportunities to do things to help others. These actions may be something relatively small that we might otherwise not do, but that allow us to share God’s love with those we encounter. Consider even small things like allowing someone else to park in the parking spot you had your eye on, smiling and acknowledging strangers you meet in the store, or calling a relative that may need assistance. All these things help us share God’s love with others and allow His love to abide in us each day.
What Now?
Is there someone you know who may need your help or who would benefit from a visit or a call? Who is a person you have difficulty loving? What steps can you take to show love to that person? Take time to pray that God would give you a loving heart.
