Life Comes From The Son

May 14, 2022

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. The one who has the Son has life. The one who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

1 John 5:11-12

Do you have friends who believe that all faith traditions lead to eternal life? Perhaps you even know a self-professed Christian who believes that all faith traditions are just different expressions of belief in the same god. This belief, often referred to as “religious pluralism,” has become a growing trend. And it promotes the idea that all faith—whether in Buddha, Mohamad, or Jesus—leads to eternal life with the same god. I’m amazed at the number of recent movies, podcasts, and books that promote this idea in a false attempt at helping us find unity and common ground. But the truth is this: true life comes from the Son.

There’s Only One

In today’s verses, the Apostle John clearly and simply reminds us that the one, true God has given His testimony. That testimony is that He has given us eternal life, and it is found only by believing in His Son, Jesus Christ.

Pause for a moment and take that in. John tells us that God, who cannot lie (Titus 1:2), has testified that we have eternal life in Jesus. What does it mean that God has given His testimony? It means that He has told us the truth and provided all the evidence we need.

The Way to Life

John goes on to tell us plainly, the one who has The Son has life, and the one who does not have The Son does not have life. If you believe the Scriptures, or even in you do not, there can be no argument—Jesus is the only way to eternal life with the God.

He’s for All

We mustn’t forget that in creating only one way to the Father through Jesus, it was God’s desire that all would have this knowledge and be saved (I Timothy 2:2-6). Rather than seeing the way of Jesus as a means of excluding someone, we must instead recognize the radical inclusion Jesus brings. Everyone, regardless of ethnicity, gender, or socio-economic standing, has access to this salvation. And God gives us, who know Him, the blessed opportunity to join Him in sharing the message as we tell others the good news.

What Now?

Is there someone you need to share this Scripture with today? Do you know someone who is searching for evidence that Jesus is the one true way to eternal life with the Father?

Spend a moment in prayer and thank God for ensuring that we have heard His testimony about His son, Jesus. Ask Him to strengthen your belief and faith in Christ as your savior.
