For the word of God is living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12
Do you like to read? Many people keep track of the books they read each year. But how many on their lists include books of the Bible? Here’s the thing–the Bible is so much more than just a book to check off your reading list. If you allow it, God’s Word will guide you and help you grow in your faith.
Let His Word Guide You
When you are feeling lost or uncertain, turn to God. The Bible can serve as a map for your life, showing you the way forward. Psalms 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” No matter what situation you find yourself in, there is sure to be a verse or passage in the Bible that can offer guidance. All you have to do is ask God to help you find it, and He will.
Learn from His Character
Getting to know God better is one of the most rewarding things about reading the Bible. As we read His Word, we catch glimpses of who He is and what He is like. We see His love for us on every page. We see His faithfulness even when we are faithless. We see His goodness even when we are undeserving. When we understand more about God’s character, our relationship with Him deepens, and we grow in our faith.
Be Fully Transformed
When we read the Bible with an open heart, God uses it to change us from the inside out. The apostle Paul says in his second letter to the Corinthian church, “We all, with unveiled faces, are looking as in a mirror at the glory of the Lord and are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory.”
As we read Scripture and spend time in prayer, God slowly but surely transforms us into His likeness. But this transformation doesn’t happen overnight! It takes a lifetime for most. So each day that we spend growing closer to God, we become more like Him—and that is something worth celebrating!
What Now?
The Bible has the power to change your life if you allow it. In what areas do you need God’s guidance? Ask Him to show you more of His character and allow Him to transform your soul. Turn to God Himself, for His words are better than life.
