The woman said to him, “I know that the Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When he comes, he will explain everything to us.” Jesus told her, “I, the one speaking to you, am he.”
In Our Questioning and Confusion
This passage of Scripture reminds me of a show I was just watching. The main character walked into a store and was looking for some help. As he walked to the counter, the person asked, “How can I help you?” After he asked his question, the employee began to answer and ultimately told him that they could not help.
The man was a little frustrated as he walked away and decided to ask for the manager. When he asked for the manager, the person behind the counter reached down and picked up a different name tag that said manager. The man was a little taken back and decided to ask for the owner. The person behind the counter reached down and grabbed another name tag, and it read owner-operator.
The Truth in Front of Us
In our spiritual lives, we have so many questions that we want the answers to. Likewise, we have tough choices to make. We might even wonder what life is all about. We simply do not understand. As we read in this passage, the woman is telling this man that Christ will return and answer our questions and explain it all to us, only to realize that the Man is Christ. Just like with the woman’s questioning, here’s the explanation and the answer: Jesus.
How many times in our lives do we get lost in what we are doing and don’t even think about asking Christ and trusting in Him. We just do not see Him right in front of us. If we believe that Christ came to this earth to save us and to have a relationship with us then we have the source for our answers and direction. He is right there waiting on us to ask and seek Him. So, for all our own frustrations, confusion, and concerns, here’s the explanation and the answer…Christ.
Take time each day to read scripture, pray and listen to what God might be saying to you. If you are looking for answers or are struggling with direction, find ways to surround yourself with Christ followers. Get involved with a church small group. As God reveals Himself to you, look for ways to share your experience with others. God can and will use you to encourage and love on others who are struggling and searching
