For This Child I Pray | Week 40

“The Lord is righteous in all His ways and loving toward all He has made. The Lord is near to all who call on Him. To all who call on Him in truth.” —Psalm 145:17-18

It’s week 40! In whatever situation you find yourself today, I’m confident that you’re experiencing some extreme emotions. Maybe you don’t think you can be pregnant even one more day, or you might already be holding your precious newborn baby. You may even be overcome with grief. Perhaps things didn’t go as planned, and you’re living through a nightmare. I’m praying for you, especially that God’s strong arm of compassion will hold you tightly.

In whatever circumstances you find yourself today, I’m sure you’ve been surprised at how God has allowed your situation to unfold. Whether your story is full of heartache, joy, or both, telling it can point others to Christ. How has He sustained you? How has He grown your faith? How has He poured His love on you?

Just as God has had a unique plan for your pregnancy, He has a plan for your child. You have the opportunity to pray for this baby every day. Pray during midnight feedings, while you rock your sleeping baby, or change diapers. These close-knit moments are so precious and fleeting. Spend them bringing your child to the Father. As you do so, ask the Holy Spirit to guide your prayers.

My “babies” are all teenagers now, but forever etched on my heart are those (endless, sleepless) nights spent holding them while they cried, ate, or slept, and trying to pray as the Lord led for each of them. Many years later, it is incredible to watch Him forming the character traits He led me to plead for on their behalf, before they could crawl or speak.

As your baby grows, continue to pray for him or her. Continue to ask God to direct your prayers, and take advantage of those special moments to bring your child to the Father.
