For This Child I Pray | Week 33

“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust him.” —Psalm 91:1-4

This week your precious joy weighs around four to five pounds and is about the size a head of lettuce. Your baby may be anywhere around 16 inches long and could grow an inch this week! It’s amazing to think how your little one will grow from one third to double his or her current size when it’s all said and done.

Some milestones for this time are:

• Your baby’s skin is beginning to look less red and wrinkled as fat is stored under the skin.

• The bones are all beginning to harden, except for the skull which needs to remain soft and pliable for delivery.

• Your little one has his or her own immune system with antibodies being passed from you.

• Your child can tell day from night.

• The brain and spinal development continue to change and become more specialized up through birth and beyond as the bones of the spine form around the developing spinal cord.

There are so many “wow moments” that are carefully planned by God, our giver of life. Your child is aware of surroundings and can respond. He or she can hear your voice and feel joy when you talk and pray. So, let’s pray for you and this gift from heaven.

Father God, we know this mother and babe are sheltered in Your wings because you tell us so.

Today, we claim Your promise to take care of this baby and mother. We ask you to watch over every area of this baby’s growth, and we especially pray that the spinal growth be just as it should be. We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
