For This Child I Pray | Week 23

“A woman, when she is in labor, has sorrow because her hour has come; but as soon as she has given birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world.” —John 16:21

Praying for a healthy baby and a safe delivery are at the forefront of your mind when you are expecting, however it is so very important to pray for yourself and your spouse once your sweet baby has been born. The roles of your relationship will shift and the two of you will have to adjust to a new way of doing life together. Becoming a parent for the first time can be overwhelming, therefore it is vital that you and your spouse be on the same page with each other about your expectations of one another. Be sure to communicate your needs with each other. If you need to be alone, sleep, or even a shower, make sure your partner knows! Pray that you will have open communication with each other.

One can never be fully prepared for your new role as a parent, so it is essential that you and your spouse keep God as the cornerstone of your relationship. God will guide you and lead you to be the parents that your child needs and the partner your spouse needs. Pray for yourself as an individual, as a couple and as new parents.

“All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children” (Isaiah 54:13).

Lord, let us lean on You for encouragement and strength during this time of change in our lives. Let us become the parents You want us to be for our new child. Please keep the lines of communications between my spouse and myself open and let us not forget that You are the reason for bringing this precious gift into this world. In Your name, we pray. Amen.
