For This Child I Pray | Week 22

“The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the person who seeks Him.” —Lamentations 3:25

This is a week of waiting. The newness of pregnancy has settled in, the bump is starting to show more, but there is still a while to wait before you meet that sweet little one. Your baby’s development this week involves continued growth in all areas.

This is great practice for the journey of parenting. Loving and nurturing a child is a long process. There will be times of busyness when so much is going on, but not all of the moments will feel like that. There will be many times of waiting—waiting for the night when you sleep for a stretch of several hours, waiting for first steps and first words, waiting for the school bus to bring that kindergartener back home, and (before you know it!) waiting to see the headlights turn into the driveway as your teen driver returns home.

I have often heard it said concerning parenting, “These are the longest days and the shortest years.” The long days involve many individual moments of loving, teaching, correcting, and molding your child. Sometimes it feels like nothing is changing but there still is growth. Even though you may not see each tiny step, maturity is taking place and will be evident with time.

This week, thank God for the ways He is physically growing your baby. Pray that He will help you to be patient as you wait on the arrival of your child. Pray for the Lord to prepare your heart to parent your child physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
