For This Child I Pray | Week 19

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.” —Proverbs 3:5-6

As you pray for your baby this week, pray for their developing nervous system and brain. Nerve cells developing this week include the ones used for sight, touch, taste, and sound.

While still within the protection of your womb, your baby will begin learning the sound of your voice. Read, sing, and talk to them. After the birth, one of your favorite moments will be when your little one hears your voice and opens his or her eyes to see the face that goes with it. The foundation for treasured moments like this one begins now.

Very soon, your precious blessing will use the nervous system and brain to explore the world that God created. As He lovingly knits together the precious one within you, pray for the future moments of joy as you help him or her grow and learn through these senses. Clinging to the One who is the giver of wisdom and patience will be essential as those moments of exploration also turn messy and frustrating. Throughout your child’s life, his or her little hands and mind will find trouble, bring laughter, be a source of joy, and lead you to feel an overwhelming love.

The Lord is sovereign over all, so trust Him to equip you as you daily seek His direction for your calling of parenthood.
