For This Child I Pray | Week 15

“My dear brothers and sisters, understand this: everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger, for human anger does not accomplish God’s righteousness. Therefore, ridding yourselves of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent, humbly receive the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.” —James 1:19-21

It’s week 15! You are into the second trimester now! So much is happening inside your womb—the secret hidden place where the Lord is knitting this precious life together. Your baby’s eyes are moving to the front of the face, and the ears are continuing to develop as well. This precious baby has been given two eyes, two ears, and one mouth—just as you have.

Read James 1:19-27 and James 3:1-18. As we dwell on scripture this week, let us examine our own hearts. Hormones can run rampant during pregnancy, can’t they? And if we are not careful, we can be too quick to speak and too quick to anger. We can also allow our feelings and worries to overwhelm us. But, I want to encourage you to continually bring your thoughts and concerns to the Lord. He is the One who loves you and your baby the most. He is aware of every detail in your life and your baby’s life.

As you continue to pray for the developments in your little one’s life, believe that your baby will one day have a heart in tune with our Creator—seeking the Lord with all of his or her heart and falling in love with His Word. Pray over your baby’s future. Pray for protection over what he or she will see with the eyes and hear with the ears. From childhood to adulthood, pray your precious one will be guarded in what comes into the mind.

Lord, may these righteous prayers be fruitful even though the future seems so far away. And, change our hearts and minds with Your word, Lord.

Here are some other ways to continue to shape your life and your baby’s life through this pregnancy:

  • Listen to sermons or podcasts that invite your heart to God’s Word and encouragement.
  • Listen to praise music and worship.
  • Guard your mind, heart, and eyes from certain shows or movies thatdo not honor God.
