For This Child I Pray | Week 12

“You heavens above, rain down righteousness; let the clouds shower it down. Let the earth open wide, let salvation spring up, let righteousness grow with it; I, the Lord, have created it.” —Isaiah 45:8

Today’s date was circled in red on my calendar. It was all I could see despite the scribbles and notes that filled this month’s agendas. I took a deep sigh of relief. We had made it through the first trimester.

Some people choose not to tell about their pregnancy until this marker. If you haven’t shared your news with friends and family yet, know that there’s great victory in this date. It’s in these moments that we as followers of Christ must stop and acknowledge His work and gifts for us.

Spend a few minutes remembering life before the gift of this child. No matter your circumstances, this child is miraculous. This child is growing bones and hair. This child has fingers and toes. This child is created in the image of the living God with a plan and purpose for the Kingdom of Heaven. Pray that as this child grows and develops, he or she is healthy, happy, and whole. Thank God for this moment.

Now, spend a few minutes thinking about the future. Don’t limit yourself to dates, graduations, or milestones. Filter your thoughts through the lens of salvation.

It is easy to become overwhelmed with the details that go into planning and preparing. However, take this moment to pray that the Lord will let salvation spring up within this child—that they may obtain the gift of salvation and the righteousness that grows with it through a relationship with Christ Jesus. Pray for this child’s eternal glory in Him. Ask Him for He is able to grant this child a long life and joy in His service.

For our greatest hope is not found in the beginning of life, but in the end; may we dance and worship for all eternity with this sweet child.
