Galatians 3:8

8 Now the Scripture saw in advance that God would justify the Gentiles by faith and proclaimed the gospel ahead of time to Abraham, saying, All the nations will be blessed through you. — Galatians 3:8

Read All the Questions Before Answering

School was never one of my favorite things to do as a kid. It was a chore! I was too busy talking or simply not paying attention. I remember one instance when the teacher had given the class an assignment, and I moved right into answering the questions as best as I could. As I was working, I noticed that others were finishing pretty quickly. I wondered how they could complete the assignment so quickly.

Then I got to the last question, or as it turned out, a statement. It said, “Please put your name on the top of this paper, do not answer any of the other questions, and turn it in.” I then went back and looked at the instructions. It said, “Read all the questions before answering them.” I simply did not pay attention and did not follow instructions.

In this passage, God is trying to communicate two main thoughts. One, He loves and cares for all people. He talks of “all the nations” being blessed through Abraham. God does not look down on us and tell us that one race, color, or gender is better than another. God sees us all the same. He sees us as His creation. He sees us all as sinners in need of salvation. He loves us all deeply and ultimately showed us His love through His Son Jesus Christ.

Second, we see that we are justified through our faith in Him. This was written for Gentiles who fell into the trap of believing they were justified through their good works. God is very clear that it is through our faith in Him that we are saved. There is no way that we can ever do enough to earn that salvation. It is only through the blood of Christ.

It is easy to just jump in and forget to read the instructions. We start, and before we know it, we have missed the point. We have missed the instructions of how we are to rely on our faith in God and trust that He came for all of us.

  1. Where are you trying to do it your way instead of relying on faith in your Creator?
  2. Whom in your circle of influence can you encourage to trust and have faith in God?
