Mark 13:24-27

24 “But in those days, after that tribulation: The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not shed its light; 25 the stars will be falling from the sky, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. 26 Then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. 27 He will send out the angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven. — Mark 13:24-27

The Coming of the Son of Man

Today’s scripture verses are part of a conversation Jesus had with His disciples during the last week of His earthly ministry. They had traveled out of Jerusalem and were resting on the Mount of Olives. Jesus began to tell them about many things that would transpire in the future. A time of persecution and great tribulation awaited His followers, but He told them He would come again and gather His people to be with Him in the Father’s house.

When the Son of Man is coming again is a question that has been discussed and argued for centuries. But if He will return is not a matter of debate. Christ promised He WILL return in great power and glory to gather His elect to be with Him for eternity. This is a fact you can depend on.

How do I become a part of His elect? The Philippian jailer asked Paul the same question. His reply was, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31 NKJV).

The early church believed Jesus would return during their lifetime, but some of them had died. Paul wrote a letter to the church in Thessalonica and assured them that those who had accepted Jesus and were now “asleep” would be a part of the final gathering. The crucial part of Paul’s explanation was that these individuals had believed before death.

Jesus said “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6 NKJV). Believing and accepting Jesus as your personal savior is the only way to be a part of His elect. However, this decision must be made before your final breath, and no one knows when their last breath will occur. Believe and be ready for Christ’s coming.

  1. Jesus is coming again. Our responsibility as followers of Christ is to help as many as possible be ready for their last breath.
