In him was life, and that life was the light of men.
John 1:4

Written by Madison Swofford from the Brentwood Campus

John 1:4 makes me think of a light house. The light shines bright on the coastal shore to warn mariners of danger and guides the boats to safety. We make a decision whether we will follow the “light of men” from which all life stems, or drift through utter darkness.

In Genesis, God did not say let there be darkness, for darkness already existed, rather God said let there be light. From the very beginning light was good.  It symbolizes holiness, goodness, and knowledge. Acts 13:47 says, “For this is what the Lord has commanded us: I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.” We are commanded to take the light that brings forward life, and allow Christ to shine in our everyday through us, so that the light of life makes it to the end of the earth.

What Now?

As you go throughout the week look in areas of your life where you are embracing the darkness of this world rather than the light of Jesus. Let the light of Jesus lead you safely to shore. Lean into the light, for the light will bring forward eternal life. And be that light for others.
