The Problem of Metaphor

Mike Glenn · Matthew 6:9

Today is Father's Day. For some of us, that's a joyful occasion. But for many, Father's Day is difficult because your relationship with your father is a painful one.

When Jesus reached for a metaphor to help us approach God, he said, "When you pray, say, 'Father...'" Jesus said that assuming that if children would pay attention to their fathers they'd get some idea of God. But what happens if your father was not loving or good-or present?

It's true-our earthly fathers influence our ideas of our heavenly Father. This week, I pray you'll connect with God, the perfect Father and Father Jesus knew, and that meeting Him will give you a reason to celebrate.
