1 Peter 1:3-9
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead 4 and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you. 5 You are being guarded by God’s power through faith for a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 You rejoice in this, even though now for a short time, if necessary, you suffer grief in various trials 7 so that the proven character of your faith—more valuable than gold which, though perishable, is refined by fire—may result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; though not seeing him now, you believe in him, and you rejoice with inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 because you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls. — 1 Peter 1:3-9
Praise to God for a Living Hope
by Dana Guy
This beautiful and inspiring collection of verses focuses on the future—our eternal future in heaven. It realigns and corrects our vision and shows us where our thoughts should reside. Trade in your rose- colored glasses for heaven-colored glasses.
The Lord gave us a living hope by the sacrifice He made when He gave His son over to die as a propitiation for our sins. Because of that gift and because He rose again, we are spiritually born anew to walk with His spirit and hope living inside us. This is the change that takes place once we give our hearts to Him. Then our focus must be on that afterlife, the place He prepares for us. There we will experience an indescribable inheritance, unimaginable with our limited earthly perspective.
Now we only see through a glass darkly, but one day it will be clear. In this earthly life we will have to suffer grief of all kinds as we work in service to the Lord. We must view these trials as His refinement. We are being prepared to meet the Father face to face. When gold is heated, the impurities are forced to the top and then skimmed off. This is how our loving Father chooses to purify us. He never tires of shaping us into a shape like Jesus. This molding grows our faith and readies us to meet our Father.
If you have a relationship with Christ, I urge you to place your hope in your eternal future, custom designed by the Father just for you. It will never fade, wither or rust away. Unlike the physical body you now reside in, your future can never be harmed.
- On a daily basis, where is your focus?
- In what do you place your hope?
- Do you praise the Lord during trials?
- Do you welcome God’s refinement?
